Water pump installed in Kisaliza Village, Kafumu Parish, Mawokota Mpigi

Thanks to the generosity of One World Group in Oxted, Surrey, Project Le Monde has been able to install a safe drinking well in the town of Mpigi, South West of the capital, Kampala.

A lack of safe drinking water and sanitation are primary causes of many preventable stomach-related diseases. But now that people get clean and fresh water conveniently from the water tap, many water borne diseases like diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid have reduced dramatically.

A pumping system like this, powered by a generator are a practical solution to water scarcity in these communities. Otherwise residents would collect water from a well many miles away from their homes.

Women and young children no longer have to spend hours collecting water. Many families depend on this tap for water. The installation of the water pump has made the flow of water more efficient and reliable. The residents are both relieved and very grateful for this water pump. Although it can be costly to operate – especially as water demand rises during the growing season and fuel prices spike.
