Rebecca Mirembe's Story

Rebecca Mirembe

I am Rebecca Mirembe aged 23 years old from Uganda. I come from a family of seven children 3 boys and 4 girls. I am the 3rd born.

I was so blessed to have been found by Madam Anne and Madam Rachel from Project Le Monde.

My life was brightened and I was given hope for a better future. Being from a poor family that could not afford two meals and supported my only by our mother, there was no way we could all afford to complete  school however much she was trying.

My mother was always doing various jobs like washing people’s clothes and cleaning compounds from which she would earn just enough money to take care of us and also afford just enough to feed us on a day to day basis. She could only afford to take us to government schools for this, at least we got a basic education and not to stay at home. But even with these modest fees, our mother struggled to acquire it. Because it wasn't only the fees but also stationery and other requirements that came with attending school like uniform and shoes.

Project Le Monde picked me from that confusion and turned my life around by paying my school fees since my secondary school level where I managed to perform very well and joined University. They have continued to pay for my fees since my first year at Muteesa I Royal University in 2017 up until now in my final year 2021.

I had never thought that there would be a time in life that I will have cleared all my school dues in the first week of the term/semester. All thanks to Project Le Monde that what I thought was impossible became my life style.

My mother is beside herself with excited about my coming graduation, but most of all, I personally can't wait for the day. I will be dressed in my graduation gown and covered in the feeling of contentment that I made whoever believed in me so proud. I have many dreams for my future; which I believe are very possible now.

I am hoping to pursue a career in tourism and travel business after school and to become a prominent and financially stable woman to help other children in my situation .

I believe one day I will make Mama smile, a smile so big and help my siblings acquire quality education.

I will forever be grateful to Project Le Monde for investing in me. There are many children similar circumstances like my own, but I feel special for they saw something in me and never gave up on me.
