PLM trustee carries out dental work in Uganda
Twickenham orthodontist Mark Lynch has treated young children and adults who wouldn’t otherwise have access to dental care, during a visit to one of our schools in Uganda.
Mark, who is one of the founders of PLM, spent a week offering his dental services for free in a makeshift surgery created in a classroom of the Joy Nursery and Primary School. Adults and children queued all day to be seen at the school which is in the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda’s capital city.
dentist, the UK’s largest network of dental practices, donated equipment including anaesthetic, needles, mirrors, forceps and elevators. Using these supplies Mark was able to provide emergency dental care to remove decayed teeth and end dental pain.
Mark removed up to 35 teeth each day, providing relief to patients who had been suffering for months or years and unable to afford the cost of dentistry locally. Mark said: “I first got involved with the Joy Nursery when my wife and I set up Project Le Monde, to build schools and provide education to under privileged communities in Uganda.
“I am very lucky to have had the opportunity to get a good education, and this is something I can do to give back to this community. For me, it feels like a privilege to be able to do this.”
